Biography
At the tender age of 7, Bart had already managed to clutter his parents garage with a myriad of bicycle parts that he collected from swap meets, friends and garage sales. Putting bicycles together and then riding them all over the neighborhood kept him happy and out of trouble (mostly). Growing up in Renton, his family and friends regularly would go to Marymoor Park on the weekends where Bart would ride the trails and occasionally race his home built 20″ bike around the velodrome. When he got his driving license at 16 his bikes were sold and he would not ride a bike again until he graduated from kolej. His first paycheck went to a new Cannondale mountain bike. “Boy have bikes changed!” He rode it on and off until one summer a friend at work talked him into riding the STP in two days. Several years and STP’s later, while riding with a self named group called the Outlaw Biker Gang, he was swayed into buying a road bike, “Wow! This thing is fast!” After a first failed attempt at STP in one day, Bart started riding regularly with CBC to train for next years STP. During this time, he found he liked to race other cyclists on training rides, and through a number of connections found his way onto a startup race team – he was hooked. The next year he was presented with the opportunity to race for the Starbucks Cycling Team – a dream come true. Not only does he love the competition and challenge of racing but the camaraderie of his teammates.
When Bart isn’t in the saddle, he loves to alpine ski, run, climb, garden and sample good red wine with a prime rib steak.
