Team: Heather Warncke
Biography
Heather refuses to declare a real hometown, but, in addition to the 14+ years she has been in Seattle, has lived in Cincinnati, Louisville, Boston and London (she’s also spending an increasing amount of time in China for work recently). Heather loves EVERYTHING about bikes – racing is just one part of being a Total Bike Geek for her. She’s also a mechanic, frame collector, zealous Campy evangelist, expert tubie gluer, maniacal fan of past greats like Merckx and Pantani, and an experienced mega-foul-weather bike commuter.
Heather is going into her fourth full season of road racing with Starbucks, and came to road cycling as an endurance tritahlete (where her greatest achievement was completing two full Ironmen in under 90 days). On the race side, Heather is known as a fearless technical descent specialist, although she wishes very much that descents didn’t map 1:1 with ascents. She also loves sprint finishes and racing on the track, where the hills are always optional and the whole race is “The Fun Part.”
To finance all of this cycling fun and gear, Heather works in research at a giant software factory in Redmond, WA, where she spends her weekdays thinking about mega-scale Internet systems. She has two wire fox terriers, one of which is deathly afraid of bikes, and a fiancée (Adrienne) who comes from a long line of respectable road cyclists and is learning to be obsessed with bikes (or else).
