Biography
Karen discovered the joy of cyclocross racing three years ago after cheering on her husband through the 2005 Seattle Cyclocross Series. Karen couldn’t believe anyone could smile, let alone joke and laugh, after 30 to 60 minutes of grinding through the mud and other unmentionable farm substances. Yet, she had to try it, and after her first season, she was hooked. Karen has spent the last three seasons singing the praises of cyclocross and convincing anyone willing to listen to give it a try. In 2007, Karen tried track racing after a new track bike appeared in her basement. Though intimidating at first, Karen learned to love the speed and grace of racing track and looks forward to building her skills in 2009. Finally, Karen is trying out road racing in 2009. With this in mind, she is delighted to have the support of her new Starbucks teammates. If Karen is racing, you will likely see her biggest supporters: David, husband and Second Ascent racer; Ella, one of the cutest redhead girls in the world; and best friend and most-avid amateur cycling fan, Betty.
